Deploy SMS

My upcoming new project that I wanted to learn more about is SMS. I like to learn more about how SMS is install and how this make deploying and managing software easier. Can someone with experince tell me how the setup went and how it's use in your network? Tips, or links would great

I recently resurrected an install of sms 2003 that hadn't been used for a couple of years. Having no experience with SMS it was a bit of a challenge. I bought a MS Press book called SMS Administrators Guide, which is brilliant. It beats reading multiple web pages and not getting a full understanding.
