We have an NT network being served by Windows 2000 Advanced server on a single domain. We would like to have one computer that is able to access only those shared folders on the network that we let them have access to. I cannot seem to make it so that they cannot browse the network and find "unsecure" folders, etc. Is there som security setting that will allow someone ONLY to access those folders you want them to, and NOT allow them to actually browse the network to access them (eq. access them by a shortcut, not by browsing)?

Thank you for your reply. Info:

If you share something with a '$' at the end, it will be a hidden administrative share. I use this trick sometimes for dual access into a folder. Example I may have a folder shared Read-Only as "Software" for people to get to installation programs, but then I also create a secons share as "Software$" that has Write pernmissons that allows me to add/delete contents. You can open the hidden share using it's UNCname through Start>Run.

Even on the hidden share I still restrict access to an administrative group though because anyone who finds out the name can try to open it.

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

I hit submit too soon. What I meant to finish with is that you could probably share everything hidden. Nothing appears in the browse list but you can get to known folders through a shortcut.

Keep in mind that even hidden shares will show up in server manager, so you can't hide them fromm administrators.
