Deny a Specific Printer In Terminal Services

Hello,

I was wondering after looking at my terminal servers if there is a way to deny a specific printer from mapping from the Clients. For instance, I do not want to map the Microsoft XPS Document writer from the clients that have it. I would like to allow the other printers that they have, just would like the ability to control it a little better. any suggestions are apprecisted

Not totally following you. Are you looking to prevent local printer redirection or mapping of new printers on the server at login?

If the latter, you should be able to alter your login script to only allow the desired printers.

lets say the client has 2 printers that are "real printers" like the hp laserjet 2100 and LJ 4250. the client also has the Microsoft XPS image writer. I would like them to beable to redirect the real printers and deny the XPS image writer printer. thanks for the response and I hope that clears up the question.

Yes that does clear it up. It is an all or nothing situation, if you have enabled "printer redirection" then all the local printers will be redirected.

In order for Printer Redirection to work, you need to have a compatible driver installed on the Terminal Server. So the only thing I can think of is for you to remove the XPS driver from the Terminal Server.

thanks Mark, I was not sure if thre were some creative Registry Hacks or Group Policies that I could instutite to make it easier.. thanks for the prompt reply.

If I recall you can set to allow only the default user printer in the RDP-TCP settings in the TS Config MMC under the client settings

unfortunately, that does not help much either since they require to print to multiple printers. good thought though. thanks for your help

What you can do is write a policy within your department stating to all clients that we only will authorize access to these specific printers. The rest you will need to use your Print Screen or save the file to a network drive copy it to their PC and then print
