Hi Guys,

Bit of a strange one here.

We've installed a new 2003 SBS Server on the domain and passed over all FSMO roles and the GC to it.
We are now trying to demote and/or remove the old 2000 SBS server as a domain controller and reduce it to a file server, but it won't allow it.

Could one of you marvellous people help us out in the steps needed to accomplish this?

SERVER is the 2003 SBS DC
SERVER01 is the 2000 SBS DC

According to "Operations Masters" the 2003 DC is holding all FSMO roles and the Global Catalog.

I think there is a possibility that the 2000 DC is hosting some DNS Zones?
Also, the 2000 DC is hosting the Shared Fax Service. Would this stop the Demotion/removal?

All help greatly appreciated.. :)

Also, we need to upgrade the Domain Functionality level to 2003, but (obviously) right now it won't allow it.
This should be easy post-demotion shouldn't it?

Thanks,

Jag

IIRC, you can't demote an SBS box. You'd need to install the transition pack to convert it to a normal (non SBS) server, then you can demote.
