I inherited a situation where there is an Exchange 2000 server which is also a Domain Controller. I would like to demote this server via dcpromo. Are there any huge risks in doing this? A few notes about the env...I've got 6 domain controllers (including the exchange box) and 5 Exchange 2k servers spread across 5 offices over a WAN. The Primary Controller and the Exchange box I want to demote are on the same LAN.

thanks for any help or insight anyone can provide.

check the FSMOs first and move them away from the box. Then dcpromo should be fine.

Personally, I'd apply windows update then Exchange SP3 again afterward.

Hi Rhoang,
Just wondering how you got on with this. I am looking to do this soon and wondered how you got on and whether there are any things which I need to look out for.
Thanks
