Client purchased new server and wants to retire the old one. The old one is the 'primary' domain controller in a 2003 level domain and forest.
Is it as simple as connecting to the new DC and changing RID, PDC, and Infrastructure master roles to itself, and then demoting the old DC?

Thanks in advance.

Its that easy on paper. Usually not that easy in application. Few things to ponder first. Is there only 1 domain controller, is exchange in the mix, any SQL servers? thing like that. anyway the following link tells ya how to move the FSMO roles, just dont forget about moving the global catalog server also.

hope this helps,

If there is only one server it's probably running DNS and DHCP as well.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.

It is not the only DC but it is running DNS and DHCP. Exchange and SQL are on other boxes.

Thanks for the input.
