I Have a single domain with a single DC (Server 2003) that has been giving me problems. Recently I turned up a new DC, also Server 2003, and moved FSMO, and all related network services. I go to demote the old server and I get a message saying "No other DC's for that domain can be contacted." and continues to warn that if I continue I could lose entire contents of AD. So I thought I'd stop right there and hit the forum. Any thoughts?

Have you run NETDIAG and DCDIAG in order to validate connectivity between the two DCs. You say this DC has been giving you problems, so you need to make sure that you can run all services against the other DC before you decide to demote the other one.

And before you demote that first one, change the DNS server it looks at in its network properties to the new DC (instead of itself). Otherwise it's going to have a problem when it reboots.
