Demote Backup DC during business hours?

Good afternoon,

I have read several articles on the subject, including the help file. I have demoted DC's in the past, but always after hours or over a weekend. I need to try to do this today, as soon as possible. It is an older server and is starting to have some issues.
I already have another backup domain controller at this site and has been in place now for over 3 months.
The faulty BDC that I want to remove and use as a file server only has no Roles associated with it and never has.
Is it possible for me to do this today, during business hours? It is a possibility that a handful of users got its RSOP information from this server this morning...will the transition to a different DC be transparent?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks,

Should be no issue here, the clients will rediscover the other dc. There may be a little delay but nothing anyone should be bothered by.

Usually the big catch here is if the clients are pointed to that dc for dns which can cause problems if you don't reconfigure them prior.
