Demo kit Q's?

I have just set up a demo kit with two analog lines. It is clear this is not a CICS as I have been seeing a few issues I can't seem to fix.

1. There is a two ring delay between an incoming call and when it rings the sets. Is this just a UCX thing?
2. I cannot get dial tone on my analog ports. Yes I have activated them thru the gateway and I did notice a change from the unactivated ones but no D.T.
3. For some reason I cannot call toll free numbers. I have checked the line before the system and can call but not from the system phones.

These could be issues, differences or just a lack of training. Someone tell me I didn't blow a pile of money on this for nothing!

What equipment did you buy? UCx20, 50e? Did your gateway come from emetro or did you supply your own? Are you using the on-board FXO card or are you using an external FXS gateway

In the gateway, did you set the UCx Ip address under Gateway-Call Server? As long as it can talk to to the UCx, you should get dial tone (assuming you enabled all 4 ports)on the same pairs of your telco cable as would if it were still a BCM (ie slate/white to red/green).

Also check in the dashboard that the Digital Set Server is running in the Precessess Status box.

You didn't provide enough information to be sure, but my guess is:
1. The delay before an incoming call rings the phones is most likely what you configured. Either you enabled the "Detect Faxes" option on your inbound route or you configured a ring strategy that is supposed to delay the ringing. In other words, you can configure the system to ring the phones immediately if that's what you want.
2. This is likely a wiring issue. The first analog port in on the white-slate/slate-white pair. Here is a link to the documentation page with info about wiring: 3. What you can or cannot dial is determined by outbound routes. If you have a route with a dial pattern for toll free numbers (or a generic pattern for all NA numbers - 1NXXNXXXXXX), call to a toll free number will be sent to the trunk that is specified as the destination of that route.

When I got my demo kit I was a little intimidated.
I have now installed approx 10 systems and am still learning.
It is not a CICS, but in my opinion more flexible and future ready.
Tech. support is awesome. Take some time to read the wiki.emetrotel.org pages.
It is a new learning curve, but stick with it. And keep posting your questions, this is a growing company with a growing product. Sometimes its good to be the first ones to promote new product, I'm glad I did I see a huge market for this company and product.

I always thought it was a UCX50e that is what my invoice says. When I go to licenses I see UCX50-10-R3. I am using the internal ports for analog lines (FXO's) and the external gateway for the analog sets, (pair 5,6,7 wt/slate, red/blue red/Orange). I don't see digital set server in the process box, but would I have M7310 phones without it?
I can assure you that the system in NOT set up correctly.
As for the analog ports I am using the correct pair. when the port is deactivated it sounds dead but once activated it sounds like battery (from the analog days) but no DT. Toll free call, I hope is a programing issue. I am from the old school so trunks and routes are new to me. I am used to the old appear and ring.
For now I will keep plugging away since so many people say E-metro is the way to go.

It sounds like you have the analog phone correctly connected. To get the dial tone (and all other functionality), you'll have to assign an extension to the analog port. To do that, go to PBX - PBX Configuration - Extensions, add a new "Generic Nortel Device", enter the desired extension number and some name and finally select the analog port in the MAC Address drop down (the port should be listed there if it is enabled but not associated with an extension yet).

BTW - you could take a peek at the Extensions Overview page (Reports - Extensions Overview). You can use this report to view information about configured extensions as well as unregistered Nortel devices. Your analog port(s) that are not associated with an extension should be included in the report (without any extension numbers).

Did you enable the analog ports in the digital gateway ?
Gateway tab then
onboard hardware tab.

Have you double checked your network settings ?
Under system, then network.
Gateway and primary and secondary dns

Solved the Analog port issue. I was expecting DT as soon as port was enabled in the gateway. I skipped the MAC addressing since an analog phone obviously does not have a mac address. So Once the Mac was activated the Analog started working.

Still unable to make toll free calls. says "the carrier access code is not in service". It sounds like I am dialing out but the call is not going thru.

Add this in your outbound routes
dialing plan
1888NXXXXXX
1800NXXXXXX
etc.
