I AM A NOVICE USING VISUAL BASIC 6, AND ACCESS. I HAVE STRONG SQL SKILLS FOR QUERYING. I USE CRYSTAL REPORTS DAILY.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF DELPHI IS SIMILAR TO VISUAL BASIC 6 OR VBNET FROM MICROSOFT.

HOW EASY IS IT TO BUILD SIMPLE DATA LOOKUP PROGRAMS.

I WANT TO BUILD DATA GRID SCREENS FOR USE AT WORK. THIS IS SO PEOPLE IN THE BILLING AREA CAN LOOK UP AND EDIT DATA FROM MICROSOFT SQL DATABASE.

THANKS FOR YOU INPUT.

WHAT VERSION OF THE PROGRAM DO I BUY - PERSONAL AT 99 BUCKS OR SOMETHING MORE UPSCALE.

Delphi is far more better than VB, VB net, or other micro$oft products.

The personal version will let you play with Delphi. Data lookup forms are very easy, but you will be limited to desktop systems (file based) like access, paradox and dbase. The component sources are not included, you can use the controls but can not modify them to suit your needs. (you pay only $99)

If you want to go edit on MS SQL-Server you will need at least a Professional Edition.

I was a die-hard VB fan, but after being forced to use delphi, I have found it more robust, efficient and better to use. Furthermore, to simply run a VB.NET .exe file, you need to have the .NET framework installed.
