I am very new to Delphi but very keen to migrate over from VB. My biggest problem is that I can not find any reference anywhere to using COM ports from within Delphi. Does Delphi support COM port access?, have I been looking in the wrong place?. Can someone please point me in the right dirtction or send me some sample code.

Thanks

Niall
Hi, Niall,

My situation is exactly the same as yours. Did you ever get an answer to your question about serial ports?

Thanks

Jeff

If your OS allows,then you can access serial port using inline assembly as below:

procedure MyFunc;
begin
//in(out) instruction
end;

The supported instructions can be found on delphi online help by searching asm keyword!

Delphi supports COM port access very well. As a matter of fact there is a whole suite of communication components called Async Professional which does this very easy and very reliable. It gives you complete control over reading and writing over communication ports. The company is TurboPower. Hope this helps.
