Dell Win XP with Office 2000

I just got my Dell a computer with Windows XP pre-installed.
It had Microsoft Works Pre-installed with Microsoft Word in it.
I just installed Office 2000 on it and whenever I start Excel or any other Office apps it just exits it.
It shows the Clip Office Assistant for a second and then it just exits with no warning.
Anyone knows whats going on?

help would be appreciated.

I encountered something similar with a Sony Vaio notebook. Machine came with XP Pro and Word XP preinstalled; I installed Office 2000 (less Word) afterward. A couple of times, the machine did what you say, then it seemed to straighten itself out. You did use custom install on Office 2000 so as not to overwrite the Word XP files, didn't you? If nothing else, remove Word XP, then reinstall all Office 2000. That should take care of it.
