We recently had the lights flicker and ever since, the amber warning light on front of the PowerEdge 2400 server has been blinking. I've checked all the connections and everything seems to be in working order. Is there a diagnostic or something that may list the problem. Dell warrantee ran out so they are no help. Thanks

You need to examine the ESM (embedded systems management) log. You can either do this via OpenManage Server Administrator (OpenManage is a free download from the Dell website, it's a few hundred MB though). I think it's referred to as the hardware log in OMSA.

Alternatively you can try and get hold of the DOS boot version of the ESM analyser. I don't think these are generally available though as I've only ever been sent this via a Dell tech when a support call has been placed, they're matched to the ESM revision.

I forgot to add - does the system have multiple power supplies and if so are they all still working? They usually have their own LED on the back of the system as well. Most of the amber warnings I've come across are failed fans or PSUs.
