Scenario:
Dell Optiplex with adequate CPU and memory running as a companies website and business firewall. Once every few months, the box freezes up. Screen shows the last few sucessful and unsucessful login attempts. No keyboard input allowed. Reboot & everything is OK for another few months.
Replace the firewall with a brand new PowerEdge 1650 1U server. Its been running since summer now with no problems. This morning, it locks up with the same behaviour as previously.
This server has the Embedded Management - the nifty orange blinking warning light on the front cover. It was blinking when I got down to the server room after the crash. It's still blinking after a hard powercycle. The firewall seems to be working properly.
Dell Service indicates that this is a hardware failure. Of course, we're up now so I don't want to take everything back offline to troubleshoot inside the 1U case with Dell.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt Thanks,
