Dell P1800 Server Power Supply

For personal use I have a Dell P1800 server that likes to eat power supplies for lunch. This is the second power supply to go bad.

Question - would a aftermarket power supply work? The original Dell PS is 650 watts with a 24-pin connector P1 and an 8-pin P2.

I tried a 500watt ATX supply and got some LEDs to light up, but no boot. I also tried a 600 watt ATX and got nothing. Both of these still work in with desktop boards.

Your opinion please!
