Dell Latitude CPx 650 - time to replace memory?

We have a dell latitude CPx 650. Recently during a reboot, I got a message that it found a problem with memory and was going to adjust the memory size. After some looking around at support.dell.com I found a diagnostic program, which I ran to analyze the memory. The following message appeared:

Test Errors
System Memory - Memory Bit Coupling Test : Fail
Result Code: 2F00-0419
Msg: System memory failure. Read FFFFFFFEh, expected FFFFFFFFh at address
0AF50778h. Suspected memory component located on System board, at label DIMM_A.

It seems to me rather simple to say that this notebook needs new memory, but I am wondering if anyone has any other thoughts on this.

I have replaced the memory on this notebook with two new 256mb cards from Dell. When I booted up I got the following message:

Memory write/read failure at 04560000, read 56B95688 expecting 56B956B9
Decreasing available memory
The amount of system memory has changed.
Strike the F1 key to continue F2 to run the setup utility.

When I go into the setup utility it tells me that there is 72mb ram instead of 512mb.
Since I have replaced the memory and I am still getting this problem, I think there is a problem in the box not the memory. Can anyone help?

Sounds like it could be the memory controller on the system board. Try putting dimms in 1 at a time and testing. try both one at a time in each slot,testing after each,could be bad socket,also.
