Dear all,

for the last few days i am trying to make use of my brand new DELL Latitude C640 TV Out.
As a happy user i was very exited to connect my laptop to the TV using a normal S-Video-Out cable.

The picture i get is blury and you cannot see a lot, neither to read text.
On the other hand, no media player displays the movies or slide shows i have played.

Any ideas are welcome.

Have a nice day !

Sounds like you have more than one question here.

First of all, the resolution on your TV is much lower than on your laptop's LCD screen. Therefore, text is not going to come in very clear. You would have to raise the default font size or lower the resolution for it to even have a chance at being readable. Video and pictures should show up just fine.

As for 'video not playing', we would need more information:
1) What OS (version of Windows) are you running?
2) What type of video are you trying to play (AVI, MPEG, DVD, etc)?
3) What's the error message when you try?
4) Have you run all Windows updates?

Thank you cdogg for the quick response.

Sorry for not being complete:
The resolution of the laptop is adjusted to 1024x768, therefore i do not think this is the problem.
But i will try again with larger font.

The other questions:
1. Win 2000 Pro
2. all types + DVD
3. no error message - just the picture does not show on the TV. Only a black spot where the movie suppose to be.
4. I am having all the recent updates.

Thank you in advance !

Even though you have your LCD resolution properly set at 1024x768, the TV is limited to something like 480x360 (since there are only 480 vertical lines at a 4:3 ratio for NTSC). Because the S-video out from your laptop is using a very high resolution that your TV is not capable of, small fine details such as text is going to be blurred.

More info on TV resolution here:

Try setting your resolution temporarily at 640x480, which should improve the output on the TV. Some video cards come with drivers that allow you to tweak this further. For that, you might want to visit your graphics chip manufacturer's website.

Hi sdogg,

I tried every possible combination of screen resolution and font, but the only case when i have "a" picture (not mentioning the quality) on the TV is when i choose the TV to be my main monitor.
But then, i do not see the movie on the laptop and the screen shinks.
I am getting the feeling that the ATI driver is not good enough.
I remember, with my previous Dell C600, i did not have such problems.

Anyway, thank you for the support !
