i have here a Dell Latitude D810 with a problem (who doesnt)

for no reason at all it beeps... like a bios beep (system boop not a speaker beep)... not doing anything in particular, not any time of day in particular and its hot but no hotter than any other (we have 20 of them)

any ideas what it could be or how to stop it... i aint had time to look in the bios yet but i wouldnt know what to look for even if i did

There could be a couple of reasons for the beeps.

. Wireless adapters indicating they have come in range of an access point

. Random RAM errors:
You can disable the beep:

Go to Device Manager and "Show Hidden Devices". Under "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" you'll see an item named "Beep". Disable that and the "random beep" disappears.

cheers for the help... i dont think i will be paying £8 for a replacement battery... but i have now disabled the beep... thanks for the help both of you...

only problem now is if anything else goes wrong i wont know about it... hummm probably too late then anyway and the fire brigade will already be on its way!!!!!
