Dell Laptop Port Replicator Loses USB Port Connections

Here we go again...!!!
I had a problem previously with my Inspiron 7000 port replicator losing its USB connections. Useful tip from bcastner sorted me out. I have now upgraded to XPhome and now have NO USB connections at all when I use the port replicator. Have tried everything, deleting Root Hubs, rebooting, replacing cables etc but nothing works in the two USB ports.
Has my port replicator died or am I missing something obvious in a set up...
