I am trying to upgrade my dell inspiron 8200 256Mb ram with an additional 512Mb, booted up and bios accepts it fine, but then when trying to load windows (XPprof) it tells me " windows could not start because file NTFS.SYS is missing or damaged, load from start up CD" but then when i take the memory back out it boots up fine, is there any easy way to sort this, or could it be the memory?? thanks all

Hi-

Try swapping your known good 256mb stick into the other slot & see if you can boot. If so, it's not the slot. Now put the new 512mb stick in & boot (in the slot that the original 256 had been in)- if it hangs, you know it's the memory & not the motherboard. Also, I wonder if the 512 alone will boot? Does your PC require matched emeory? Would be odd but you never know...
