Dell Inspiron 1150 dark LCD display

I have an Inspiron 1150 with a dark LCD display that works OK on an external monitor.
Is the fluro backlight incorporated in the display panel or could it be the inverter board and has anyone had experience with this particular fault as I don't want to sell a new inverter to find it was the LSD or visa versa

An exploded stripdown manual should be available on the Dell support site for this (and, AFAIK, all other Dells. A quick look through should tell you the layout of the display parts.

You have checked that the display brightness setting hasn't been turned down in the BIOS (someone playing a prank?)?

Thanks heaps! - Havn't actually seen the machine as yet but will check brightness as clients primary school children use it as well as him

Did you get this problem solved? My 1150 is now doing it and I was wondering what you had to do to fix it. The screen is dark but can be seen in a well lit area at an angle. Thanks
