Hi

ive got a dell dimension XPS T600.
the problem is im not getting any screen come up.
Ive taken main parts apart cleaned and put back still nothing! reset the BIOS as ive found sometimes that can be it but still nothing! ive changed the graphics card nothing and tested the priginal one and works ok!

its running a P3 800 mhz slot (slot 1 i think!) 128 pc133 memory and an ATI rapge pro graphics card!

its been working but now it simpler doesnt!
it all fires up ok but no beeps or anything!

theres 4 LEDs on the back that change colours from orange to green labeled abcd, abc are green but d stays on orange. i dont know if this is any help to the reason!

all help welcome please

thank you Luke

The LEDs on the back may well just be USB port lights? They are on the PC's where I work anwyay.

Is it not possible that it's just a faulty monitor?

I know its blindly obvious but I presume it is plugged in and switched on? May have been knocked off by accident!

You said "the original one works ok" - do you mean a monitor?

'When all else fails.......read the manual'

its been tried on 3 different monitors definately not that! i meant the graphics card that was in there i tried in another computer and worked ok!

Sounds like your power supply may have gone down on one rail, this gives the appearance that the PSU is OK but as failure is on one power rail it just won't boot.

after testing with the power suplpy i believe you could be correct!!

when i use a ATX power supply tester it shows it as not working! BUT when i put a new power supply in (tried with 2 different power supplys!!) i get a high pitch continuous beep until i switch the PSU off on the unit itself and the high pitch noise lasts for about 2-3 secs getting deeper and deeper until it cuts out!!

On the power supply that doesnt work (the original!) pin 3 or 4 is missing! but its not on the board either! any reason for this?

as said earlier its a dell machine.

thanks

your memory could be be bad. have you tried swapping it out?
Also I think the four lights on the back are used by Dell technical support to diagnose problems with the PC.

Sorry to butt in but... From your description it sounds as though the original power supply has failed and probably taken down some other critical component(s).

Normally, when you start up, POST (power On Selef Test) initiates: if there is a component at fault, you get a series of bleeps. The actual bleep code indicates which component is at fault.

Your continuous bleep suggests that probably the processor has blown. Try disconnecting everything from the motherboard - including removing the grpahics card and memory so just the processor and front panel connections are still connected. Then turn on the PC. If it still gives a continuous beep, it is virtually certain the processor (or possibly the motherboard) has been damaged when the PSU failed,

had a look on the dell website for the error code which is on the back of the pc and it shows me this!

Other failure. Refer to Chapter 7, "Getting Help," of the Reference and Troubleshooting Guide for instructions on obtaining technical assistance.

Thats nice of them isnt it! i am suspecting the power supply greatly now!
Can i just add the high pitch beep was from the power supply when i connected a new one which led me to asking why one of the atx power connector pins was missing from the board and the connector??
is this common other any dell dimension board?

thanks
