dell dimension 2400

Hi I am trying to install a dvd writer in my dell but I am having a problem with the drive not being recognized in the bios. The drive works fine when I put it another computer( it is a plextor 504a)

If you put it where the existing CD is what happens? You may have to update the BIOS to get it recognized. Check the dell site.

Slightly vague on this, but I had something very similar. Dell delivered a 2400 where they had forgotten to plug in the cd. Bios just wouldn't see it. Dell support told me to go into the bios and type Alt E and then Alt F (I think it was e then f). Restart the pc and the cd was recognised. I'm slightly hazy here, so I should check with dell or somewhere first.
