Hoping that someone might be able to solve a problem we are having.

We have a Dell CX300, which is connected to two Windows 2003 servers using Fibre Channel Cards (234x series).

When allocating Luns (using Navisphere) the server behaves normally, showing the disk space as available for allocating to partitions. The second server however (which has been set up in exactly the same way) has issues when viewing the Lun disk space in Disk Management, it shows the Lun as unavailable, and therefore unable to allocate to a partition.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to share the same LUN between both servers?

I think you are sharing the same LUN with the 2 servers, may be the 2 servers in the same storage group in the CX300. This is a normal fact when you are doing that, because, the firsts server make a "signature" in the disk where it says "hey.. this drives belong to me!" so the 2nd server "read" that mark and put the disk drive (physical disk in disk administrator) as unavailable.

If you are NOT sharing the disk drive, the problem could be another thing...

Can you tell us if you are sharing the LUNS?

Cheers.

Thanks for the replies, but no we're not trying to share the same LUN. Each LUN has been allocated it own selection of disks from the array available, and then the seperate LUNS have been allocated to the relevant servers.

We have managed to solve this issue now, strangely enough by reseating the Fibre Channel Card. A little strange as all seemed well with the card.

Thanks Again.
