I have a Dell Axim X50v that's a refurbished unit. This is probably my 6th or so replacement device from Dell through their Complete Care warranty/replacement program. This particular device I've been using for just about a year without any problems whatsoever. Anyway, I've used the Axim extensively each day, but have not backed up the data for about 2 weeks when the unit suddenly failed on me for no good reason.
When it suddenly failed (it last worked about 2 or 3 minutes before the failure) the screen goes black and has a warning message saying: "A memory error has been detected. Press [the contact button] to correct the error. If the system does not boot, press [Power]+[Reset] to clear all data in the memory and reboot the system."
I've researched this extensively on the web and even called Dell Tech Support after my warranty expired. None seem to address the issue I'm asking now: Is it possible to recover data from this Axim if I use a data recovery service or any other means?
I didn't use the SD card slot to backup the data (partially because I've never figured out how to do it this way - I just sync it with my laptop).
The other reason I ask is because, throughout my work, I come across a lot of articles about how employers can recover data from PCs, etc., even after it's been supposedly "erased." Or even how thieves can hack into a supposedly locked phone or laptop they steal to get to the information, etc., etc. So, if all this is possible, is my data really lost on the PDA or can I still recover it?
I don't mind spending the $ to get it, I just don't want some unethical data recovery company lying to me that they can get the backup, charge me the $, and then say, "Sorry, the memory was destroyed."
Any help/suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
