Hi all,

I have a Dell 530 with SCSI for its hard drives. I have added a Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card for an external DLT drive. When the pc boots, it sees both cards but it does not see any devices that are on the 2940UW card! I have tried different cables, devices and terminators. I have even tried different cards! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi,
here's a couple of suggestions

1: If you take out 1 card does the other 1 work, ie have you a bus conflict ?

2: Press cntrl A to go into each of the cards at post, go to scsi device configuration and enter at scsi boot configuration. Make sure that the send start unit request setting is set to YES for all IDs. There was a problem a few years ago where adaptec were shiping 2940s with this option set to NO.

3: What scsi ID are your devices at ? If both of the hdds are at the same scsi ID neither will be seen, however your system should hang at boot in this case. Just check the ID jumpers on all the devices, ideally the hard drives should be set to IDs 0 & 1 and the tbu to id 6.

Hope this helps
