Hi all,

I have some weird trouble with a Dell Poweredge 2450 server,

It has 2 SCSI 18GB hdds, but since I have installed OpenManage (installs on a partition of the HDD) I can no longer see both my HDDs? Also the cd-rom player got unhappy.

But how to get rid of this? It seems to somehow also be in the CMOS, cause even without the hdds the cd-rom is suddenly very unhappy.

It sounds like Open Manage wiped your partition table to create its own partition.

Andy.

Not only that.
I seems to have killed of one of the SCSI HDDs.

But how to fix?

If it was me, I'd be asking on the Dell forum and downloading some info on Open Manage......did you install from a CD? Any Readme's or docs/pdfs on there?

Andy.

I did actually download info on open manage, however the problem was that I could not get into open manage.

I assume that the harddisk is really gone. Changing the cd-rom has fixed the cd-rom problem. Loading OpenManage after upgrading the EMS rom has worked a bit better than per usual.

I will try to install a new HDD and see what happens.
Dell is quiet bad with forums. I like tek-tips much better.

Dell support is even more hopeless. I could buy some new parts that might work at £200 each? They must be joking! On Ebay the same parts are £5 (new).

I have a Dell (or three), never buy parts from them or any of the other big names - £40 for a case fan - Compaq - no thanks!

Support used to be better! I thought the Server end of their forum may be useful; try posting on one of the server forums here...maybe Open Manage is not just a Dell thing...

Andy.

And their support people are hopeless. Took my colleague 20 people before he got through to the right person!

But as I said, it seems to have done the trick as outlined above.

Many thanks.
