This is interesting.. I bought a 1900FP manufactured in 2002 (out of warranty) to replace my 19" viewsonic crt.
Before I even plugged it in, I tried powering it up. It has a floating hardware screen-saver that shows red green blue and white. the colors appear correct, however as it moves across the screen there is a ~2-3 second ghosting effect. Attempting to browse the web like this is like XP's fading menu's, but much more annoying. The mouse pointer becomes invisible unless it stays in the same place ~2-3 seconds.

I was just wondering if this is a common problem. Didn't see anything in google, but figured it's worth a try. I only spent 100$ on this monitor, so if it's a user fixable problem I'd like to avoid buying a new one for $550+

of note: it does *occasionally* (maybe for 2 minutes after about 10-15 minutes of ghosting) bounce back into normal mode, which is somewhat brighter onscreen. response returns to normal, and it has a nice, clear picture. Attempted using different video cables, both dvi and analog, same issue.

Appreciate any help :)

Sounds like that is why you got a $500 unit for $100. Contact DEll and see if this is a common problem, there may be a cure.

Have you tried it connected to another machine? obviosly needs reasonable graphics card to display at these higher resolutions.

yes, tried on 3 diff machines. It happens even with the built in screen saver when it's powered up, but not even plugged into a computer.

I've tried contacting dell, but no response yet. Will give them a phone call today.

tried moving the resolution around to find it's native resolution.. no change at 1024x768 or 1280x1024

didn't see any option for it in the monitor settings.
I did change it from the default 60 to 75 in Windows with no visible change.

I also did the "reset to factory defaults", and tried changing settings manually. But the fact it does it even when only running off power (no video input from the PC) leads me to believe its something with the monitor itself.

I was just wondering if anyone may have come across similar issues and found that replacing something in the monitor fixed it :)
