Hi,

I recently did a CE9 import to 2000 Server B from 2000 Server A.

Server A then got destroyed and rebuilt as a non CE server. So it's now out of the CE picture for good. However, another server - Server C - also Windows 2000, was built to provide resilience to Server B. An import was done from B to C, using the Import Wizard. The import failed to import any users or user groups, but imported all report objects successfully.

Now here's the thing. On Server B, the Crystal NT Users group is now listed as \\Server A\Crystal NT Users in the CMC. If you click on this group, there's an error message: 'Retrieve Error: There was an error while retrieving data from the server: NT Authentication failed to get the members of the group with ID: "S-1-5-21-448539723-2147045105-725345543-1004\\server A". If the problem persists, please delete this group and re-map it into Crystal, then try again.'

As Crystal NT Users is one of the default groups, if you go into CMC, Manage Groups, you will see that there is no checkbox next to it that you can select and press the delete button. I'm guessing that deleting this group is the only way to get users to import into Server C successfully, as I cannot re-map the group from Server A.

So, what I would like to know is, is there any way of deleting this group other than going through the CMC? I mean, of course there is, but do you know what it is?

Thanks!

I have found the Import Wizard to be somewhat unreliable (See thread782-1064259). But what you may find helpful for your issue is to go to the Crystal Configuration Manager (on the server), stop the Crystal APS, and click the Specify APS Datasource icon (the yellow disk pack). Then choose Recreate the current Data Source. This will clear all the added entities (users, folders, objects, and groups). I believe it will also reset the Administrator password to the default.

When you rerun the Import Wizard, you might find it helpful to import Users/Groups separate from Folders/Objects.

Wow, that's kind of drastic! Although it looks like you're on the right road, I think we've gone four or five junctions too far for what I need.

I don't really want to delete everything in the APS. Remember this is now the source APS, and it's actually live. I just want to remove one user group. All the objects, instances, users, and other user groups, I'm kind of attached to! If I reset the datasource, I wouldn't be able to reimport a good instance from anywhere.

Any ideas, anyone? This problem is on the brink of stopping a mid-six figure project from going live, and I don't particularly want everyone to start pointing the finger at Crystal when they realise we can't go live.

If you're using Windows Active Directory, you don't need to import the user group, because it will be sourced from Windows AD.

All you need to do is apply the AD plugin from the BO Knowledge Base. Do a search for ce9 AD plugin or something like that.

Apply the patch, and from the authorisation manager activate Windows AD authentication from the CMC, and modify as necessary.

Now check your user list. It'll be populated.
