Deleting MANY old files?

Client uses GroupWise to manage documents.
Server is nearly full.
There are MANY old WordPerfect documents that could be deleted.

Can I simply delete these files without messing up GroupWise document management?
Or do I have to (painfully) find and delete them through GroupWise?
