I have about 2,000 (yes, two thousand!) inventory item numbers that are inactive. Life is too short to go thru the inventory maintenance screen and delete them one at a time. I can generate a file with the item numbers to be deleted. Now I need a method to take the list and delete the records, and whatever else needs to be cleaned up. Have purged all transaction detail, histories and costing tiers. Any ideas? (MAS200 3.71) TIA and HH to all.

Life is too short? I love it!

Any way, under inventory, setup, is Inventory Management Utilitiies

In there is "Item Delete/Renumber/Merge". This is a data entry screen that allows you to enter one item at a time, and select delete, and then when the list is complete, process.

Alternatively, you can use a VI job to enter your list of 2000 items in a flash.

ChaZ: Thanks for the tip. I didn't even know what VI was, but now I see I need to do some self-training on this module. VI has never been used at this site. Looks like it is a powerful tool. Thanks again.

The vi job is short. If you have the module, I can give instructions.

Real simple one I think.

Yes,

VI is the way to go. You can populate the DELETE/RENUM/MERGE DATA ENTRY list with the IM.DRMDE file.

The easiest way to do this, is make 2-3 manual entries in the DELETE/RENUM/MERGE DATA ENTRY manually, then use VI to export all fields from IM.DRMDE , then go out the exported data, add all the ones you want, and include all the same info as the 2-3 entries you already made.

After you import using VI, go to DELETE/RENUM/MERGE DATA ENTRY and you should see your data, then run the utility.

Thanks to Chaz and vtsmike. You gave me the lead I needed to get started with VI. I ran a Crystal report to find IM item with no transactions in '03-'04, populated a spreadsheet, and imported it into IM.DRMDE VI, then ran the delete function. Worked fine, although many items did not delete because of being on open POs. Now my next project is to close thousands of old, open purchase Orders . . .
Again, thanks for your help.

Glad to see it worked out for you.

Sounds like there was quite a mess to clean up!
