Hi!

I've installed an Oracle instance, but a 3rd party
software manages it, and creates a DataBase.

When installing the DataBase, an O/S error happened,
and when re-starting again, I get this message:
"ORA-01535: rollback segment XXX already exists."

I suppose that this 3rd party software has created the
rollback segment before O/S crashed.

Anybody knows how to solve this?

You should be able to log into User Manager as a DBA, take the rollback segment offline and then delete it. Terry M. Hoey

Thank you

I'm to try it... Should I take it offline? Why?

If I want to delete the whole database (I've just intalled it), keeping the instance running... what must I do?

You can't delete a rollback segment if it is online, so you have to make sure it is offline first. As to deleting a whole database but keeping the instance running, I gather you mean all the tables, indexes, etc. You can do that through User Manager, but I would take it a step at a time. Hopefully, their install program will continue even if it finds the table already created. If not, you might as well try deleting them. If all else fails, and this is a new, dedicated machine, you might just try reloading the whole machine.

Hope that helps. Terry M. Hoey

As an alternative,
look in your init.ora file
and see what rollback segments
are specified there. There should
be one matching the 3rd party
name.
Assuming you are going to rerun,
restart, etc. the 3rd party stuff,
you can comment out the matching
rollback segment name in your
init.ora, and the database should
come up. Jim
