Deleting a folder from the web

Hey guys,
hope you can help - i would like to delete folder on my webpage and get them of the web but when i delete the i get

Server error: Cannot remove directory
"D:\

http://www.domain.com.au\folder"

This is a guess but a lot of FTP programs and others won't allow a directory to be deleted unless it's empty. Try removing all the files from the folder and then removing the folder.
