Hi,

This is in a production environment where I need to delete the existing hotspare which was already configured as hotspare and then add additional disks to the server and then combine the deleted/free hotspare disk to this newly added hard disks and create a RAID 5 disk to store more data.

I am looking into the IBM Server RAID Manager information which can do this, and also I am just trying to be little bit cautious like what are all the necessary precautions that I should take before doing this.

1. We are going to do a full backup which is for sure

But any additional things that I should know and who has done this before, I would appreciate your comments on this.

thanks

You're on the right track. Since the Hot spare is not part of the array, deleting it is harmless. However, logical drive migration - especially for multiple drives can take a very long time (even longer than the complete backup, reconfiguring the Array and logical drive to include all the drives, and restoring from backup!). After verifying you can restore your backup, this is the path I would recommend.
