Deleteing OS from HP desktop 3

I have a HP desktop that was ravaged with viruses and the HP recovery parttion was destroyed. I have treid to Load XP pro on the machine that was running XP home. Using the installtion CD I am unable to "break" the partition and reformat it to NTFS so i can install a clean version on the drive. I have tried using the ARS (automatic recovery service) and that will not allow me to format the drive eitehr. Does anyone have any ideas how to destroy that partition so i may install a clean copy?
 
Use the link below to download a Windows 98SE boot disk image. It contains fdisk. Use fdisk to remove all partitions. You can then boot from the XP CD and proceed as shown in the article mentioned above:
