This morning users had been completely removed from various SQL databases on our SQL Server 2000 installation. To our knowledge, we made no changes to permissions/users.

Is there a way to view a log that would show when these changes occured or is there a valid explanation?

Thanks in advance.

SQL Server doesn't track changes to system tables. If the users were dropped from the database, obviously someone or some process had to drop them. You could search for a Stored Procedure, DTS package, Job or SQL Script that drops users - perhaps searching for sp_dropuser.

If login auditing is on, check the SQL Eror log for any logins at unusual times.

Were the logins dropped also? Were any databases restored? Was master rebuilt? Are the users actually dropped or are they out of synch with the logins because logins are missing or were recreated after master was rebuilt or restored. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA
