Deleted User's Mail Shows Transferred

Novell 6.0, GroupWise 5.5 = all current on SP. I have deleted a user. In a test email the sent item properties shows the email being transferred - instead of a return mail saying the user is undeliverable. Why now? It's always worked before. Any help would be great! Thank you.
 
Does the action property for the e-mail say "tranferred" or "delivered"? If the action is transferred I would assume (and I hate to assume) that the user is in a remote GW system. But I will wait for your answer before guessing at a solution.

Sorry for the MAJOR delay. I am still having the same issue. A user is deleted from GW using NWAdmin. In email sent to the user it shows transferred (not delivered) and no return message is received indicating "nu such user". Also - another problem. A user has been deleted using NWAdmin, removed from all groups, no longer exists period. When sending to a group they once belonged to, a message is returned indicating Undeliverable. Is this an indication of a "rebuild" being necessary? Thanks for the Help.
