Deleted Old Username and Trying to re-create name

I had created a username (which personel gave the wrong spelling) so I tried to rename it to the correct name..
It did not work, so I deleted the name and tried to re-create it but it comes up with this error..
Windows cannot create the new user object because the pre-Windows 2000 logon name (username) is already in use..
I have the user logout of the pc and I cannot create the
new name... I deleted it out of the 2000 server and the
exchange server... what am I missing....
