Hello,

This question I have is regarding Outlook 2002 (not exchange). We have Norton Antivirus mail scan turned on so you can see when Outlook is sending mail by the small "scanning envelope" icon in the tray.

We have the preview pane turned off for safety reasons so any email identified as spam is deleted without viewing. However, when a user empties his deleted items folder you can see that there are emails being sent out that are not coming from the outbox. They are obviously notifications of some kind.

How can we put a stop to this if this device is being used by spammers to confirm viable email addresses?

Thanks!
Kathleen

Hi there.
I'm not sure about Outlook 2002 but in 2003 it is:

Tools\Options\Preferences tab\Tracking Options button\Select 'Never Send A Response' at the bottom

I hope this helps.

That's what is so strange about it, I have that option checked and there is still something going out that is being scanned by Norton.

It always happens when the deleted items is emptied.

Even if I activate the internet lock with something like Zone Alarm and wait a period of time, as soon as the connection is again viable the emails go out on the very next send/receive.

It's a little maddening!
