deleted items folder retention

I want everyone's deleted items folder to be purged after 120 days.

If I go to properties of the storage group, Limits, and set "Keep deleted items for" 120 days, is that supposed to permately delete anything older than 120 days from the deleted items folder? Or does it just set how long you can use the Outlook Recover Deleted Items?

That is the time that the system will hold the deleted items for before purging them.

This is after the permenant deletion from the "Deleted Items" folder in Outlook.

And, you should have the other box checked that says not to delete them until after a successful backup. So, during the first maintenance window AFTER a successful backup AFTER the retention period expires, the items should be removed.

If you want items to automatically be removed from the DELETED ITEMS folder after 120 days, you'll need to setup a mailbox management policy.
