I have deleted my /etc/fstab file and need to replace it.
I have a copy saved as another file but can not copy it back.
When I boot I can go into the maintanance mode but can not copy my file, as it is read only.

Depending on your distribution:
If it's Red Hat, boot from the CD or bootable floppy, and select rescue from the menu.
OR
go to and download this rescue disk.
THEN
mount your hard drive (usually: mount -t ext2 /dev/hda1 /mnt) which will be in read write mode, and now you can copy the backup fstab file to its right place.
Good Luck!

Thank you for you answer it was right on the money. I went
to Tom's and downloaded his disk, and all went perfect. For a time I was thinking "one more install". Thank's Again
