Hi,
I accidentally deleted the DOS Partition in SYS volume.
Is it possible to save the data in those partition?
Can I install it again without losing the data?

Thanks in advance,
Welly Lai

WellyLai - the DOS partition is seperate from the SYS volume as the DOS partition is seperate from the NetWare partition where the volumes are.

I remember having this problem on a NW3.2 server. I copied the C: from another server and got it working. This would be difficult to do on a NetWare 5 server as the registry is stored on the C drive.

What you could do is a partial reinstall, but stop when the server does into the GUI setup. I have no idea what this will do to your NDS, however in a test environment I once had a partially corrupted DOS partition so deleted and recreatedt the DOS partition, I assigned a volume called SYS1 to be the system volume (created during the setup), did a partial reinstall, then reassigned the SYS volume to be the system volume (in NWCONFIG). This is providing you have the space to create another volume in your existing NetWare partition. -----------------------------------------------------

Maybe the best course of action is to get a new hard disk. Nothing special, IDE couple of GIG.

Put that in the server and unplug existing drives.
Install Netware onto new drive. Full install with a sys and everything.
when that is installed and working use fdisk to delete the non-dos partition off the new disk, leaving only the dos partition on it.
Then, re-attach the original disks.
With a little work on the startup.ncf to load the drivers for the original disks your server will boot from new disk with only dos on it, then load drivers for original disks with sys and other volumes on. It will only detect one sys and will come up as it did before the accident.

If the isn't clear send me an email and I'll try an explain a little easier.

I think Lee's suggestion is about the best. You may loose file permissions on the old drive, but ADMIN should have permissions to everything and allow you to recover (copy) the files.

Hi

Well if you install it again using the upgrade oprtion it will retain your netware partition and NDS security settings but will recopy your system files. Afterwards you need to apply all latest patches.

But depending on what software you use as a backup you might have backedup your dos partition so you only need to restore it

Hope this was some help

Cheers
