It used to work, but now it does not.

When I highlight text in Word and I want to delete this hightlighted text, I just used to hit BackSpace and the text was gone. Now, the Backspace does nothing, text is still there. I can hit Backspace and delete a character at the time, but highlighted text does not want to be gone.

I can use Delete key above the arrow keys.

Some help?

Have fun.

Are you in 'insert' mode or 'overwrite' mode? I suspect this might sort it out...

I can just open a new Word file, type any text, highlight any text - either by mouse or Shift-arrow - hit BackSpace and the cursor goes to the begining of the hightlighted text, but text stays untouched.

I don't know what you mean by 'insert' or 'overwrite' mode....

Have fun.

Not sure, since mine deletes highlighted text with backspace just the same in both modes, but worth a try.

You know, if you look at your status bar on the bottom of the Word window, it should have the letters OVR, either black (so it's an 'overwrite' mode) or grayed out (it's an 'insert' mode). You can recognize it by moving a cursor to some existing text and type some more: does it type over the text or pushes the text to the right and inserts what you type into it?

You sure have seen both of those behaviors, even if by mistake, if you have been using computer for more than a week.

I guess I usually am in 'insert' mode sine OVR is greayed out. But that doesn't make any difference sine I can go into 'overwrite' mode by pressing 'Insert' key.

Still, can not delete highlighted text by BackSpace key in either mode :-(

Have fun.

I think I know what your problem is.

Go to menu Tools -> Options -> Edit and check "Typing Replaces Selection" option. Press OK.

Works for me.
