Is there a way to delete all records after a particular part of a file (without creating any other temporary files)??

If its not possible just say so. but PLEASE reply.

In Windows you can truncate files at a selected position. See SetEndOfFile. John Fill

thanks again!! i'll try to do that. still then, is there some way to do this in DOS using TCC V3?

may be u can try setting the (n+1) character to 0. this normally works as the terminator and the file would be read till that point.

just try out, i am not too sure.

icici... you couldn't get further from the truth... the 0 character is for string termination, it has nothing to do with the FILES!
Think at what you said... if any file would contain a 0 at somepoint, you would just stop reading from the file??? Nosferatu
