delete paragraph formatting

I have a folder that includes 600+ MSWORD documents that I need to change the style. The problem is when I apply this style it will have too much spacing between paragraphs because of existing paragraph breaks. I need to remove paragraph formatting before I apply the new style. I can't seem to do a search for a paragraph marker so I'm not sure how to get started on this. Any suggestions?
