Hello,

I have a user who is running Groupwise 5.5 and they setup a vacation auto-reply rule. While they were on vacation the auto-reply got stuck in a vicous loop with another auto-reply. This user now has 5000 messages and I can't seem to delete them. When I delete them they come back. I tried a mass delete but it requires a library??? and I can't pick the user (gray out). Does anyone know how to delete all of these messages and have them deleted for good?

Thanks,
JTSJ

Hi,

First you need to delete/disable the vacation rule.

Second, they are not coming back. The problem is that there more than 5000 of them, most likely in the 100 of thousand. Trying to delete them all will put a strain on the server. I don't know if anyone has a better suggestion but I have had to delete the mailbox and recreate it. Another option would be to restore a copy before the vacation rule went into affect from backup.

Thanks - I was trying not to delete the mailbox but that may be the only course of action.

In experiencing a similar situation some time ago, I realized the GW will only display around 5000 e-mails in the Mailbox detail view, so what you may be seeing is that the 5000 you highlighted and deleted are actually gone, but another 5000 are being displayed.

Lou is correct that the mass deletes are hard on the server and you will probably get calls from other users about performance. I ended up deleting 500 at a time, but my user only had 25,000 to delete (I can't believe I just said "only" and 25,000 in the same sentence).
