Delays before login, network problems, shutdown problems

I am suddenly having problems with my Solaris 8 box. It's an Ultra 1 200E, latest patch clusters installed. I had it off for several days and all I did during this time was remove the hard drives and plug them back in. Suddenly, seemingly without reason, problems have started.

There is now an extremely long delay before the login screen appears. It just sits at the gray screen with the black x pointer (icon whatever) for a few minutes. Also, shutdown's do not work. Normally I use shutdown to state 5 and the system powers off. Now it begin the shutdown and state that it will do so, but then it just hangs there.

Also, my network connection seems to have stopped working, mostly. I have a cable modem, this Sun machine and a Windows box on it through an ethernet switch. I can only ping the Windows box from the Solaris one (using the internet IP address), but I cannot access the internet.

Other than that, the system operates as normal, filesystem appears to be fine, programs operate, etc.

The only thing I have done recently is change the cablemodem, but I have run this modem in the past fine. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

P.S. - Unrelated, I also have had a problem for some time now with the User tool in Managemen Console (the fancy gui tool). When trying to view users/rights etc it pops up "CIM_ERR_FAILED". If anyone knows what causes this I would also appreciate any help regarding that.
