Working with Office 2003 we are experiencing problems when trying to save .xls & .doc documents to a shares on the WAN.

We're getting message "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" The error may have been caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection"

Saving as .rtf or .html from Word to network shares works fine!

Reading Microsoft white paper it states that when saving to network shares .xls, .doc & .tmp are broken down into 4kb packets and when saving these types of files it can result in SMB latency.

MS advice on the white paper is and i quote "Avoid accessing Office files over a wide area network" which is no use to us at all or investigate SMB packet latency!

I'm not a network engineer so not sure about reducing SMB latency on Cisco switches/routers so help/advise there would be good from any techies.

Office 2007 does work fine as this saves differently but would rather try overcome existing issues than upgrade everyone and produce new training issues.

Anyone else come across this problem before, if so any advise on how you overcome it would be most helpful

Bex
