I am using IE 5.5. At random times, when I click a link, there is a long (30 sec - 2 min)delay before the page begins to load. I can go for several minutes clicking links and connecting quickly. Then, I'll click a link, and there is a long delay. The IE logo/ animation in the upper right hand corner starts moving, but no progress bar appears. Also, there appears to be no modem activity. I would write this off to high internet traffic, but it happens at any time of the day and another computer (w/ IE 5.5) on the same phone line doesn't give me this problem. Is this an IE problem, a modem/ settings problem, or something else. The system that has the problem has the following:

1.2GHz AMD Thunderbird
ECS K7S5A (SIS 735) mobo
512MB SDRAM
Zoom V.92 PCI modem

If more information is required, let me know. Thanks!!

It wouln'nt hurt to start with the basic's .
A good clean out & if it still isn't right , repair IE .

Empty Temp Folders (emptemp) helps you manage folders that contain temporary files, left over by other applications. It's easy to add any folder and you can empty a folder (or all folders) with one click.

Also emptemp will let you list and delete cookies, history files and temporary internet files (this requires MS Internet Explorer version 5+).

Emptemp also has a search function to let you find and delete temporary files outside the normal temp folders. Any program can leave behind temporary files or backup files anywhere on your harddisk. These files have file types like .tmp, .bak, .old and .log. You can add your own
file types.

Emptemp also displays the amount of memory the content of the clipboard takes up, and lets you delete it. And it can find broken shortcuts (.lnk files) on your harddisk, so you can delete or fix them.

Try choice 2 .

W95 you have 3 choices . With W98 , if you have IE5.1 or higher & you still have IE4 installed the following applies . No IE4 only 2 choices .
IE5.5 if over the top of 5.1 , offers 3 choices .

You can install IE5.1 straight over 4 . A big feature with IE5 is thatit can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer , then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with 3 choices .

No Microsoft Internet Explorer in Control Panel !
Start>Run , key in msinfo32 and press Enter . Click on Tools >
IE Repair Tool .

W2000 > Start > Run
then enter exactly (case/space-sensitive)
rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance
this will give you the IE Repair dialog... proceed to repair IE

Repair IE6 .

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q318378)

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser altogether .
