Del Row in One Sheet Gives Error in Different Sheet

Have excel sheet (sheet B),(protected & cells locked) with formulas referencing cells (in a particular row, though not absolute (no $s)) in another sheet in same workbook (sheet A). When row in sheet A is deleted (shifting rows up), the references in sheet B all go to #Ref! errors (even though it was protected & locked and even though the row was replaced by the one that shifted up)
